Talibé Children - 118 x 90cm
Talibé Children - 118 x 90cm
Artist: Alainco
From: Dakar, Senegal
The Talibé children of Senegal know the streets better than anyone. They see everything and hear everything. They spend everyday and most evenings roaming the roads, begging for food and money. They can almost always be spotted with a small red tub in their hands, either to receive food donations or to collect coins in. Our partner charity - AYDA Foundation - conducts many activities to support these very vulnerable children.
In this painting, the adolescent Talibés are taking a moment to talk with each other at the side of the road. The artist chose to give them indiscernible features, to show how society neglects them and forgets to treat them as individuals.
IMPORTANT: Upon very close inspection, there are some areas with minor cracks in the paint, which occurred whilst the painting was in transit between Senegal and the UK. It is ready to pin up or drape. If the buyer wants the canvas to be mounted onto canvas stretcher bars, this has to be organised separately by the buyer and usually costs £30+ to be mounted professionally, depending on the canvas size.
